Your Opportunity

We are looking for an Laboratory and Quality Manager to join our team. You will join a core team of motivated and ambitious individuals with a shared goal to make an impact in our sector. As our Laboratory and Quality Manager, you will work closely with our academic team and management team in a dynamic laboratory and quality management role which includes client-facing laboratory, strategic planning, quality assurance and problem solving.

About You

The following are our required skills and qualifications:

  • Master’s in a relevant scientific field (equivalent to EQF Level 7)
  • Over 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, including Quality Assurance
  • Capable of handling changing priorities
  • Technical knowledge of equipment, materials and resources required by the laboratory
  • Experience in academic/laboratory research activities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including troubleshooting and identifying the issue, proposing efficient and effective solutions and implementing solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment as a consistent, dependable performer with an excellent work ethic
  • Keen attention to detail, organised, efficient and proactive
  • Strong time management skills and comfortable working to deadlines
  • Right to work and based in Malta
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite inc. Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate succinctly and accurately in verbal and written English

Additional Skills and Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Experience in forensic science sector
  • Experience in applying for research grants and funding
  • First-aid certificate

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the right equipment, materials and supplies are available to cater for all students’ & staff need
  • Prepare budgets required for the lab equipment, materials and resources (such as books, journals, equipment, disposables, physical space etc)
  • Ensure office and laboratory EH&S procedures and policies are up to date and fit for purpose
  • Ensure that students and staff are familiar with H&S requirements
  • Prepare quality assurance documentation in line with various accreditations
  • Co-ordinate research activities including research internships
  • Maintain office and lab equipment
  • Liaise with suppliers to purchase the necessary resources
  • In-person sessions setup
  • Handling of organisational insurance
  • Coordination of all in-person events; graduation ceremonies, lab sessions etc
  • Identify, if any, improvement and gaps in lab facilities, suggest practical solutions and management implementation of agreement solutions
  • Manage relevant local permit and licences with regards to lab and teaching facilities
  • Support in business development where appropriate
