Criminalistics vs Criminology
Criminalistics
Known as the “science of the traces”, it relates to all technical-scientific inspections carried out in the investigative field after a crime or incident has occurred with the purpose of identifying traces and evidence that will be subsequently analysed with specific scientific techniques. Criminalistics is an applied science.
Criminology
The branch of science studying crimes, perpetrators of the crime and their victims, types of criminal behaviours (and subsequent social reaction), different forms of prevention and methods of re-integration of criminal offenders into society and support for victims. Criminology is a social science.
The Institute
The European Forensic Institute was founded with the first and foremost aim to create a European hub for forensic and investigative sciences, to bring together experts, professionals, and students to collaborate, teach, learn, and innovate in this highly important and pertinent sector.
We do this through our fully accredited learning programmes and Center of Excellence.
The institute is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA HEI License number 2018-014) and follows the European Qualification Framework.
