We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Manager to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of laboratory facilities, supporting academic instruction, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is critical in fostering a hands-on learning environment that complements online education and enhances student engagement through practical application.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to academic excellence. Professionalism, ethical integrity, and the ability to support faculty and students in both virtual and physical lab settings are essential. This position also requires proactive problem-solving, team collaboration, and a student-centered approach to laboratory instruction and support.

Your Opportunity

As a senior member of the academic operations team, the Laboratory Manager holds overall responsibility for the strategic planning, safety compliance, and operational effectiveness of our laboratory facilities. This role leads the management of all laboratory resources and services to support education, research, and institutional growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and enforcement of EH&S policies, ensuring full compliance with local and international safety standards.

• Strategically manage laboratory operations, including session planning, asset management, and quality assurance of lab-based teaching and research.

• Oversee procurement strategy, budgeting, and vendor relations to ensure cost-effective and timely resource acquisition.

• Evaluate laboratory facilities and activities, identifying improvements, managing change implementation, and enhancing service delivery.

• Supervise and guide lab personnel, including the Laboratory Coordinator, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders for space coordination, logistics, and institutional planning.

• Support curriculum delivery by working with academic staff to ensure lab components are well-integrated and pedagogically effective.

• Lead the coordination of lab-based events, research projects, and international programmes, including ERASMUS+ and partnership programmes.

• Contribute to strategic initiatives related to digital resources, sustainability, and institutional development.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Master’s degree in a scientific field

Extensive experience in laboratory management, health & safety, and operational leadership.

Proven ability to lead teams, manage cross-functional projects, and drive continuous improvement.

First Aid certification ; additional EH&S certifications are an asset.
